In the Beginning - My Grandma's Closet
I have always loved clothes. I remember stumbling on the hidden treasure of my grandmother's attic closet when I was 13, and it was one of the best days of my life. I spent hours combing through polyester pant suits, 60s printed mini skirts, bell bottoms and vintage tees. I had never had so much fun in my life.
Fast forward to high school and college - where I loved planning outfits and frequently doled out the contents of my closet to friends. Instead of going to the movies on the weekends, I usually took my $20 and went to the mall to buy a new top (on sale of course). I guess you could say I had a knack and passion for shopping and putting looks together from a young age.
What I realize now is that clothes are a creative outlet for me - and they make me happy. Feeling good (or bad) about an outfit can make or break my entire day. Clothes are certainly not THE most important thing in life, but feeling good about the way you look IS a huge part of being confident and content - and clothes do play a role in that (thanks so much Eve)!
This blog has been a long-time coming and a dream of mine for many years. I allowed my own insecurities to get in the way for a while - I don't have extensive fashion knowledge, formal training, or an unlimited budget. I don't exclusively wear the newest trends or designer labels. I am a practical, budget conscience, busy mama who (probably) shops a lot like you! I simply enjoy sharing my finds and hope you'll find the tips and style inspiration here helpful. I want all ladies to know that they CAN dress well regardless of budget, size, age and with minimal effort.
What I'm Wearing
This outfit embodies my personal style and a lot of what I'm about.
1. I love white shirts and you will see a lot of them. This one is from one of my favorite retailers, Madewell.2. I'm usually minimal and simple - and black and white is a classic color combo I'll never quit!
3. Practicality rules in my day to day. I'm a busy mom, so I'm typically dressed down and for comfort. These Elaine Turner shoes are SO perfect for on the go mammas. Check them out HERE and grab a discount with code LBRITT
4. The black pencil pants are from another favorite retailer, TJMaxx. I'm telling you - I love a good deal as much as anyone!
5. I believe accessories make an outfit. This necklace (I LOVE turquoise!) is a long-time favorite from my Chloe + Isabel boutique.
